Students attend County Honors Band Festival
Eleven students from Loyalsock Township Middle School recently attended the Junior County Honors Band Festival that was held at Montgomery Area High School on March 8.
The students were selected by their band director, Robert Leidhecker, to attend the festival. They joined other select students from grades seven and eight from around Lycoming county to make up the 106 piece band.
Guest conductor for the event was Mark Boyer, retired and former director of bands at Hughesville High School.
Boyer put the band through it’s paces for two days of rehearsal, followed by a Saturday afternoon concert, for a capacity crowd in the Montgomery High School auditorium.
The students were challenged with difficult music to perform, but did so with musical maturity and brilliance.
The festival is non-competitive, however, it serves as a valuable experience in preparation for PMEA festivals at the high school level, which are by audition only.
