Students of the Month
Laura E. Bastian, daughter of Kristen and Randy Bastian, was named Outstanding Senior at Warrior Run High School for the month of February.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, student council and is president of the Spanish Club and treasurer of Defender Pride. She also participates in varsity soccer, basketball and softball.
Bastian has been a member of the distinguished honor roll, was named Academic All-Star, a two-time member of the first team PHAC all-star soccer team and second team all-star in soccer.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Susquehanna University and major in Spanish to become a translator or teacher.
Watsontown Lions Club
Mackenzie J. Hays, daughter of Shawn Hays, was named Watsontown Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of February.
She is president of the National Honor Society and Defender Pride, secretary for the class of 2014 and student council and is a member of concert choir. She also participates in varsity soccer, softball and basketball. She has been a member of the distinguished honor roll and was named an academic all-star.
Following graduation, Hays plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in elementary education with a minor in special education.
Turbotville Lions Club
Sarah G. Vermilya, daughter of Schawanna and John Vermilya, was named Turbotville Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of February.
She is a member of student council, concert band, jazz band, concert choir and French Club, and plays the saxophone for the Defender marching band.
She is the manager for the boy’s basketball team and participates in field hockey and track and field.
Vermilya is a two-year recipient of the Offensive Award for field hockey and qualified for Susquehanna Valley Band.
She is employed by the East Lycoming YMCA as a lifeguard and by TJ’s Market.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania and major in accounting and business management.
Milton Rotary Club
Kiri C. McCoy, daughter of Vickey Anspach and Gary McCoy, was named Milton Rotary Club Vocational Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of February.
She is a member of Chorale, the color guard for the Defender marching band and is a member of “The Warrior,” yearbook staff.
She has been a member of the honor roll and Pennsylvania Free Enterprise and is employed as a babysitter.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Lycoming College and major in early childhood education and creative writing.
Students of the Month
Girl of the Month for Montoursville Area High School for the month of February is Jessica Nicole Dunkelberger, daughter of Kristina and Robert Dunkelberger.
Her favorite subject is Spanish. Her activities include Spanish Honor Society, NEHS, Rho Kappa, Future Business Leaders of America and student government. She also has been class officer and a member of the homecoming court, the track and field and basketball teams and is captain of the cheerleading squad.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Lock Haven University and major in health science with a concentration in pre-physician assistant.
The Boy of the Month for Montoursville Area High School for the month of February is Matthew E. Shea, son of Jean and Mike Shea.
His favorite class is honors chemistry. His activities include National Honor Society and Key Club and he is a member of the baseball and football teams.
Following graduation, he plans to attend Penn State University and major in nursing.
