39 Penn College student-athletes earn all-academic awards

Pennsylvania College of Technology, in conjunction with the Penn State University Athletic Conference and U.S. Collegiate Archery, has announced the recipients of the Winter/Spring 2014 All-Academic Team awards.

In the PSUAC, the award is given to student-athletes with a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in the semester of competition.

Winter sports that compete over two semesters are calculated by averaging both semester grades.

In the USCA, the award is given to the top 10 grade-point averages in each discipline that are above a cumulative 3.0.

Award recipients were:

Archery – Kendel Baier, junior, of Jersey Shore; Kelvin Dewalt, senior, of Easton; Greggory Foust, sophomore, of Murrysville; Nicole Lapinski, junior, of Bloomsburg; and Markus Weber, sophomore, of La Plata, Maryland.

Baseball – Cody Buterbaugh, senior, of Conestoga; Zach Buterbaugh, junior, of Conestoga; Clay Denoia, freshman, of Berwick; Darien Ebersole, freshman, of Pequea; Kyle Fox, freshman, Fleetwood; Zachary Green, freshman, of Kensington, Maryland; Josh Longsderff, senior, of Columbia; Zachary Pepperman, freshman, of Montoursville; John Rodriguez-McKeon, junior, of Stroudsburg; James Scully III, junior, of Middletown, Delaware; James Simasek, sophomore, of Landenberg; Cole Weachock, freshman, of Pottsville; and Zach Weil, junior, of Kutztown.

In addition, honored on the United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic team were both Buterbaughs and Scully. The All-Academic team is comprised of student-athletes who have maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or better.

Men’s basketball – Thomas Ross (freshman/Williamsport) and Laquinn Thompson (freshman/York).

Women’s basketball – Charese Bova, freshman, of Beech Creek; Chelsea Burger, freshman, of Millersburg; Margaret Dewire, sophomore, of Beaver Fall; Nicole Reyes-Molina, sophomore, of Lancaster; Alicia Ross, freshman, of Williamsport; and Niesha Williams, junior, of Loyalsock Township.

Softball – Delaney Blubaugh, sophomore, of Waynesboro; Alexandra Brennan, sophomore, of St. Clair; Jessica Gmerek, freshman, of Bellefonte; Katie Kratzer, sophomore, of Lynch Station, Virginia; Macie Lucas, freshman, of Reedsville; Brittney McHugh, freshman, of Frederick, Maryland; Rachael Shaeffer, freshman, of Hampstead, Maryland; and Katelyn Wertz, freshman, of Bernville.

Also, Blubaugh, Kratzer, Shaeffer and Nicole Lo Furno, of Glen Mills, were honored as United States Collegiate Athletic Association Academic All-Americans as student-athletes who have maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average or better.

Men’s tennis – Christopher Morrin, sophomore, of Morrisville.

Wrestling – Patrick Fitzgerald, freshman, of Port Royal; Troy Leid, freshman, of Terre Hill; Mason Replogle, freshman, of New Enterprise; and Allen Wilson, freshman of Sykesville, Maryland.
