City native awarded postdoctoral fellowship
Marci (Folk) Nilsen, of Williamsport, received a doctorate degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing on April 28, 2013. Nilsen, the daughter of Maureen Folk Barnard, graduated from Loyalsock Township High School in 2001.
While attending University of Pittsburgh, Nilsen’s academic research focused on improving the care of critically ill older adults who have difficulty communicating. She recently was awarded a competitive, two-year Claire M. Fagin postdoctoral fellowship from the National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence. She will complete the fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing.
Nilsen and her husband, Greg, are the parents of two sons, Graem and Emmett, and reside in Pittsburgh.
