Mansfield native receives doctorate degree

BLACKSBURG, Va. – On May 16, Megan Elizabeth Evans, formerly of Mansfield, received a doctorate degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in curriculum and instruction. Evans graduated from Elmira Notre Dame High School in 2001 and received a bachelor’s degree in health promotions from Virginia Tech in 2005. She received her national strength and conditioning specialist certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2006, and completed her master’s degree in physical education from Virginia Tech in 2007.

Since 2007, she has been employed by Virginia Tech as the coordinator of strength and conditioning for Olympic Sports within the Virginia Tech Athletic Department.

As an undergraduate, Evans was a four-time division one all-region catcher for the Hokies softball team, and finished her career setting numerous hitting records.

She is the daughter of Kathy and Wayne Evans, of Mansfield.
