Area student hones writing craft at Susquehanna University

SELINSGROVE – Madeline Bowers, of Watsontown, was among a select group of students who fine-tuned their creative writing skills at Susquehanna University’s Writers Workshop July 6-12.

For more than two decades, the Writers Workshop has provided talented high school writers with the opportunity to work in intensive, small-group workshops headed by nationally recognized authors.

Students attend individual conferences, workshops on college writing, literary magazines and publishing software and readings by Susquehanna University faculty and guest writers.

At the end of the week, students have the opportunity to read their work before friends and family. Their work also is published in a Writers Workshop commemorative magazine. The Writers Workshop offers sections in fiction, memoir and poetry.

Bowers is the daughter of Daphne and Tim Powers. She is a rising senior at Warrior Run High School, where she is a member of the softball team.
