Misericordia names dean of the college of health sciences

DALLAS, Pa. – Misericordia University has named Leamore Kahanov, as the dean of the College of Health Sciences. She began her duties July 21.

Dr. Kahanov is a certified athletic trainer with a doctorate in education from the University of San Francisco, San Francisco, Calif. She earned a master’s degree in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, and a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science and athletic training from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

“Dr. Kahanov is well known in the field of applied medicine and rehabilitation,” said Dr. Thomas J. Botzman, Misericordia University president. “We welcome her and look forward to her leadership in strengthening academic offerings, increasing faculty development opportunities, and serving students and the Misericordia University community.”

Dr. Kahanov most recently served as the assistant dean of Interprofessional Education and chair of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation in the College of Nursing, Health and Human Services at Indiana State University, Terre Haute.

Over the past three years, she facilitated the development of the new Department of Applied Medicine and Rehabilitation and instituted new programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, massage therapy and physician assistant studies.

She also oversaw development of a physical therapy and sports rehabilitation clinic at Indiana State University campus.

She previously held faculty positions at San Jose State University, San Jose, and Rocky Mountain University, Provo, Utah, and served as an athletic trainer at both the high school and collegiate levels. She has published and presented extensively on athletic training and sport science.

The Misericordia University College of Health Sciences offers bachelor, master and clinical doctorate degree programs, as well as certificate programs in specialized areas. The areas include the departments of nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, medical imaging, speech-language pathology, health informatics and diagnostic medical sonography, and the Assistive Technology Research Institute.
