Sullivan County graduates receive scholarships

The Sullivan County Scholarship Association was formed in 1989 to raise funds to provide one time grants to graduates of the Sullivan County High School in Laporte.

It is a private 501(c)(3) organization. Each year, funds are raised from the giving of citizens and organizations within the county.

From the first set of grants of $200 in 1989, it has progressed to this year’s awards to 15 graduates. Each student will receive $2,500, for a total of $37,500.

The grants are awarded to students through a competitive application reviewed and scored independently by former educators and can be earned by a student moving on to education in business school, technical school, community college or a traditional four year college.

The association’s belief is that if each county in the United States adapted our model that the financing of secondary education on a national basis could be completely changed in a most positive fashion.

The recipients were awarded scholarships at the June graduation.
