Lock Haven student spends summer engaged in research, creative endeavors

READING – Joshua Reeder, a freshman biology major from Lock Haven, is spending the summer tackling an Albright Creative Research Experience (ACRE) project.

Reeder’s ACRE project is titled “Surveying Bat Populations Using Echolocation Signals.”

ACRE is a multi-disciplinary program that affords undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct research or pursue creative endeavors during the summer break or the three-week January interim. Students work one-on-one with faculty mentors and receive stipends from the college.

Reeder is one of 17 Albright students conducting ACREs this summer. This summer’s ACRE topics range from an assessment of the impact of white nose syndrome on the bat population, to a study of romantic relationship initiation and presentation on Facebook.

As part of their work, students give an informal presentation on their research during the summer, followed by a written report and a full presentation in the fall. ACRE students often go on to present their findings at regional or national conferences or use it as a springboard for further study.
