New deans assume leadership at Bloomsburg University

BLOOMSBURG – New deans assumed leadership of two colleges at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania this summer. Jeffrey Krug became dean of the College of Business on June 1, and Robert Aronstam came to campus on July 1 as dean of the College of Science and Technology.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Krug and Dr. Aronstam,” said David Soltz, BU president. “Their leadership will ensure our graduates are well prepared to enter the workforce or continue their education in graduate programs. I look forward to working with them as part of the academic leadership team.”

A native of State College, Krug came to BU from Loyola University New Orleans, where he held the Jack and Vada Reynolds Chair in International Business and served as associate dean of graduate programs. Earlier in his career, he worked in banking in Germany and Austria, held executive positions with Texas Instruments and PepsiCo and taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Muenster in Germany, William & Mary, Virginia Tech and Virginia Commonwealth University. He is author or editor of five books on strategy and international business and his research has been featured on China Business TV, CNBC’s “Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo,” the Harvard Business Review, Wall Street Journal and Forbes. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Penn State and a doctoral degree from Indiana University, Bloomington.

“I am truly impressed by the dedication of faculty to their students, the beauty of the campus and the Bloomsburg area,” said Krug. “I see many opportunities for improving program quality, increasing awareness of the BU brand, and elevating the stature of Bloomsburg’s College of Business.”

Aronstam came to BU from Missouri University of Science and Technology where he was professor and chair of the department of biological sciences and director of Missouri S&T cDNA Resource Center, a non-profit service that provides clones of human proteins. His varied experience includes research director and senior scientist with Guthrie Research Institute, Sayre, and faculty member at the Medical College of Georgia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and completed graduate education at the University of Rochester, Center for Brain Research. His post-doctoral training was conducted at the University of Maryland, Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.

“Bloomsburg University is filled with creative, productive and caring people,” Aronstam said. “Bloomsburg offers a challenging and supportive academic community that values learning, discovery and service, and is vitally concerned with the success of its students, faculty and staff. I am very, very happy to be here, and proud to be a member of this community.”

BU’s College of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Initially accredited in 2004 and twice reaccredited, BU’s College of Business is among less than 5 percent of the world’s business programs with AACSB accreditation. Offering degree programs in accounting, business education, finance, information and technology management, management and marketing, the College of Business gives every student the opportunity to explore the full range of business disciplines at the start of their college experience. Sutliff Hall, home of the College of Business, was completely renovated in 2012 and includes the Benner-Hudock Center for Financial Analysis, a Wall Street-inspired learning space.

BU’s College of Science and Technology is housed in Hartline Science Center, one of the largest, most modern science buildings in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Students have opportunities for technology internships, health care clinical experiences, science research and other undergraduate research opportunities, while enrolled in programs in audiology and speech pathology; biological and allied health sciences; chemistry and biochemistry; computer science; digital forensics; exercise science; environment, geographical and geological sciences; instructional technology; mathematics; nursing; and physics and engineering technology. Programs are built on the foundation that strong scientific enterprise is essential to the economy, educational system and society.
