Area Students of the Month announced

Keen

Donavan Keen, son of Gina and Stephen Keen, has been selected by the South Williamsport Area High School faculty as the October Senior of the Month.

He is involved in Future Business Leaders of America (treasurer 10-12), soccer, Key Club (president 11-12), Teen Contact, elementary tutoring, science teaching, National Honor Society and track and field (PIAA district qualifier 9-10).

For two summers he has taken advantage of enrichment opportunities such as Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences, Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week and United Nations Pilgrimage for Youth.

He has been awarded several honors including Commended Student from National Merit Scholarship Corporation, second place in FBLA’s Global Business Regional Competition, second place in FBLA’s principles and procedures competition, Jerry Combs Memorial Award and junior rotarian.

Keen also works part-time at Hoopla’s Family Fun restaurant and arcade.

Following graduation, he plans to attend college, majoring in computer engineering.

Orwig

Derek M. Orwig, son of Bobbie and John Orwig, was named Milton Rotary Club Vocational Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of October.

Orwig is a member of the wrestling team, has earned four Pennsylvania College of Technology credits for welding and also enjoys hunting, riding ATV, kayaking, camping and fishing.

Following graduation, he plans to attend Penn College and major in wildlife or welding. He also has enlisted in the Army.

Smith

Zachary T. Smith, son of Stephanie and Robert Smith, has been named Outstanding Senior at Warrior Run High School for the month of October.

Smith is a member of the football team, Math Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Defender Pride, advisory council, is a student school board representative and is the president of the National Honor Society.

He also is a member of Boy Scout Troop 622, is a Cub Scout leader for Pack 3622, is a National Society for High School Scholars member and participates in youth group.

He received the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, School Counts Award, was named NHS Underclassman of the Year, is an Eagle Scout, was named to the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, was named Susquehanna Boy Scout Council Den Chief of the Year, received the highest school average on the John Teiner Gold Exam and has been on the distinguished honor roll.

Following graduation, he plans to attend college.

Hunt

Britney A. Hunt, daughter of Norie and Jeremy LeBarron, was named Turbotville Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of October.

Hunt is a member of the National Honor Society and the field hockey team. She attends Lycoming Career and Technical Center in the criminal justice program and is participating in a co-op program at the Lycoming County 9-1-1/Communications Center.

Following graduation, she plans to attend California university of Pennsylvania and major in forensic science and criminology. She would like to become a detective.

Lynn

Faith A. Lynn, daughter of Judy Guthrie and Stephen Lynn, was named Watsontown Lions Club Student of the Month at Warrior Run High School for the month of October.

Lynn is a member of the National Honor Society, Drama Club, is the editor for the Warrior yearbook, is assistant director for the drama production and is the historian for the Class of 2016.

She also is a church youth group member, teaches at Kidsway and Jumpstart at her church and also at Vacation Bible School, has attended Penn Jersey Youth Camp and Wesleyan Family Church Camp and participates in the Fort Freeland Heritage Society. She also has been named to Defender Pride and the honor roll.

Following graduation, she plans to attend college and major in pastorial ministry and minor in children’s ministry. She would like to become a church pastor.

Bogenreif

Boy of the Month at Montoursville Area High School for the month of October is Jacob Bogenreif, son of Kim and Todd Bogenreif and Brenda Rippey.

He is a member of the football and wrestling teams.

Following graduation, he plans to get a job at a nuclear power plant and restore classic cars.

Harlacher

Girl of the Month at Montoursville Area High School for the month of October is Katie Harlacher, daughter of Krisann and Tony Harlacher.

She is a member of the Ski Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Spanish Club and Key Club.

Following graduation she plans to attend college and become a dolphin trainer.
