Penn College faculty member honors students’ resolve

Two Pennsylvania College of Technology students are each receiving $250 from the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators.

While attending PADE’s annual conference recently, Calvetta A. Walker, assistant professor of reading, was one of four educators randomly selected to receive a $500 scholarship to give to a student or students of their choice.

Walker selected Heidi M. Elliott, a pre-nursing student from Port Allegany, and Chanelle Johnson, a human services student from Williamsport.

“Chanelle and Heidi came to mind immediately when I won,” Walker said. “I saw each of them persevere through difficult personal circumstances when I had them in class. They were each back in class within the same week that these immense challenges took place and never missed an assignment. I admire both of them for their strength, courage and determination.”
