Lycoming County Medical Society awards scholarships to local students

HARRISBURG – The Lycoming County Medical Society recently announced three $3,000 medical school scholarship recipients. The students are:

Laura A. Anderson, daughter of Dr. Elizabeth and Eric Anderson, of Williamsport. She attends The Commonwealth Medical College.

Ian F. Eisenhauer, son of Doreen and Walter Eisenhauer, of Jersey Shore. He attends University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Paige Robinson, daughter of Lee and Dr. Warren Robinson, of Williamsport. She attends Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“Even in my childhood, I realized that physicians have unique opportunities to serve others. My mother, a family physician, always knew how to comfort me in my most fearful moments – in sickness,” said Anderson, who plans to specialize in family medicine. “In time, I began to understand how she demonstrated the same comfort to her patients, and I wished to care for others as my mother cared or them; and for me. In particular, I wish to serve others by offering them my compassion, empathy, and attentiveness.”

Eisenhauer, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate hopes to become a Navy doctor. “I continue my passion for Navy Medicine, and have a new found passion for Dive Medicine that I hope will allow me to work with Navy Divers, EODs, SEALs, submariners, and other active duty personnel,” Eisenhauer said. “But before I ever showed up for Induction Day – ‘I-Day’ – at the U.S. Naval Academy, I wanted to come to medicine and help people in the way I had seen it done by my mentors, by my parents and by a family friend.”

Robinson, a Franklin & Marshall College graduate, studied biochemistry and molecular biology where she discovered that she loved anatomy and physiology. She found research exciting and intellectually challenging, but found that she also enjoyed human interaction in her career choice.

“Girl Scouts gave me the drive to help others,” Robinson said. “Tennis and orchestra taught me how to be a team player. Suddenly it all made sense, I wanted to become a doctor.”

In 2002, Lycoming County Medical Society began awarding the scholarship to benefit medical students from the county. Contributions from area physicians support the scholarship and The Foundation of the Pennsylvania Medical Society administers the funds.
