Head Start class gets visit from nature advocate
The Wyalusing Head Start classroom recently had a visit from a nature advocate. Buck Winters came to the classroom to spend time talking with and teaching the children about nature and trees. He brought several samples of tree limbs, tree cookies, nuts, leaves and bark and talked about why trees are important
During his visit, Winters gave the children an opportunity to touch and feel branches, leaves, wood, nuts and bark. He also had the children do a smell and taste portion with a birch tree and birch beer, maple tree and maple syrup and nuts from trees.
Miss Alicia, Wyalusing Teacher, also brought up pictures of each type of tree on the classroom’s Promethean board during the presentation. This gave the children an opportunity to see each tree so they could recognize it if they go to a wooden area.
