MANSFIELD — Adam Murtland was awarded the Mansfield University Presidential Coin for Excellence by President Fran Hendricks on Nov. 18.

The presentation was made at a Division of Advancement send-off for Murtland, who is leaving Mansfield to become assistant director for Digital Content at Cornell University.

“Few have made a bigger impact on Mansfield in a shorter period of time than Adam has,” Hendricks said. “His award winning video work, photography and publication design have brought national attention to MU and have been a big part of moving the University forward. Adam is very deserving of this honor and will be missed.”

A graduate of Athens High School, Murtland started as a student photographer in the Sports Information Department in 2009. He later added graphic design and videography to his resume while still attending MU.

After graduating in December 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, he was hired as admissions marketing coordinator in 2013. He moved to public relations as an electronic promotions specialist in 2014 and was named digital and electronic media manager in the newly formed Division of Advancement in 2015.

Murtland’ s video production promoting the LUMA (Light Up Mansfield Again) celebration have been viewed and shared more than 100,000 times on social media over the past three years. He was also part of the team that won a Bronze Award in the TV Advertising: Produced In-House category at the ninth annual CUPPIE Awards in 2015.

The coin was developed by Hendricks and designed by MU Senior Graphics Designer Andy Worthington.

It is awarded selectively to persons who have contributed greatly to the university, using the Mansfield Creed; Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service as a guideline.

The coin bears several symbols representing historical highlights and other aspects of the university that make it distinctive.
