South Williamsport Area High School held their sixth annual miniTHON from 7 p.m. March 3 to 7 a.m. March 4 in the school’s gymnasium.

The student participants added more than $26,000 to aid in the fight against pediatric cancer through the Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. The SWAHS miniTHON is a 12 hour dance marathon aimed at raising funds and awareness for cancer treatment and research for a cure. Students danced, played volleyball, kan jam, Zumba, kickboxing and more from 7pm Friday night through 7am Saturday morning. The event has raised more than $152,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund over its tenure.

Last year miniTHONs raised $5.5 million and are on pace to raise $7 million in 2017. Combined with the over $10 million Penn State students raised during February’s annual THON, proceeds go to relieve the burden placed on families during their child’s battle with cancer.

South Williamsport’s miniTHON committee will continue to accept donations toward this year’s total until May 31.

To make a donation, make checks payable to SWAHS miniTHON and mail to the high school at 700 Percy St., South Williamsport, PA 17702. Donations also can be made online by Googling South Williamsport miniTHON and clicking on the Four Diamonds donordrive account for the South Williamsport HS mini-THON 2017.
