South students selected for PMEA region IV festival

South Williamsport Area High School students recently were selected to perform at the PMEA region IV band festival. Those students were Johnathon Covey, euphonium; Chloe Dodge, clarinet; and Sarah Pulver, French horn.

This year’s festival will include more than 150 of the best high school musicians from 14 counties. The guest conductor is Dr. Timothy Paul from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Ensembles under Dr. Paul’s direction have performed at numerous prestigious venues across the country.

Selected honors and awards include the Phi Beta Mu Florida Chapter’s Distinguished Director Award, John Philip Sousa Foundation’s Sudler Flag of Honor and national winner of the UMI/ASBDA Distinguished Young Band Director’s Award. The festival host is Kevin Haile, director of bands at Central Columbia High School.

A public concert was held March 25 at Central Columbia High School, Bloomsburg.
