Stop pollution

Special to the Sun-Gazette

We need to stop pollution for many reasons. One reason is because pollution affects all of us. Water pollution makes the oceans dirty. The water is where the fish live. The pollution kills the fish, but when you eat the fish, you can be poisoned through them. This makes some seafood unsafe. Air pollution can cause acid rain and smog, which are both very deadly. Acid rain can make you very ill, particularly if you drink it. Smog is a type of thick cloud that is a mixture of smoke and fog that can make it extremely hard to breathe, especially while exercising.

In London, in 1952, there was The Great Smog. The Great Smog was horrid. It lasted four days, and was the worst pollution phenomenon in the history of the UK. But worse than that were the results. Due to this terrible smog, 4,000 people died and hundreds of thousands were made ill.

Now you don’t want that to happen again, or do you? That’s why I’m trying to stop it!

One way we can stop pollution is by riding bikes to school or work. You can travel with more than one person in a car. This eliminates the use of cars. Carpool! You can take buses to work, too. This is like 30 people all together! 30 cars saved, and 30 exhaust pipes not running! These are just some of the ways you can help us make the world a better place.
