Students of the Month
Marlene Bassett, daughter of Britt and Diane Bassett, has been named as April Girl of the Month for the Warrensville Area Lions Club. Marlene is a senior at the Montoursville Area High school. Her school activities include Key Club, SADD (vice president), varsity basketball (captain), and varsity soccer (captain). Marlene helps with the Plunketts Creek Fire Department monthly breakfasts and annual haunted hayride. The also helps out with Key Club projects and is a volunteer coach of the elementary girls basketball program. Marlene plans to attend East Stroudsburg University to major in exercise science.
Linus Nemiroff, son of Donna Mullarkey, has been named as April Boy of the Month for the Warrensville Area Lions Club. Linus is a senior at the Montoursville Area High School and is active in FBLA, Spanish club (board member), and Science National Honors Society. He is an after school counselor and recreation volunteer for Firetree Place. He plans to attend the University of Maryland in the fall to major in physics.
Matt Marks, son of Victoria Basile Marks and Glen Edward Marks, has been named as April Boy of the Month for the Montoursville Lions Club. Marks is a senior at Montoursville Area High School and is involved with district choir (10-12), regional choir (11-12), All-Eastern Mixed Chrous (12), Ville Harmonic (9-12), marching band (10-12), concert choir (9-12), musical ensemble (9), Minor Choir (11) and Academic Decathlon (9-12).
Following graduation he plans to attend Penn State University and major in biomedical engineering and minor in vocal performance.
Maranda Garwood, daughter of Kathy Bower and Joe Garwood, has been named as April Girl of the Month for the Montoursville Lions Club. Garwood is a senior at Montoursville Area High School and is involved with concert band (9-12), concert choir (9-12), marching band (8-12), National Honor Society (10-12), National English Honor Society (10-12), Key Club (10-12), mock trial (11-12) and Theatre Arts Club (9-12).
Following graduation, she plans to attend Cook Honors College at Indiana University of Pennsylvania to major in music
Madison Losell, daughter of Stacey and Chad Losell, was selected by the South Williamsport Area High School faculty to be the April Senior of the Month.
She is involved in chorus (9-12), Future Business Leaders of America (9-12, secretary 11-12), color guard (10-12, captain 12), drama (10-12, costume crew head and assistant stage manager 12), class historian (10-12) and Bowling Club (0-12). She also organized and fundraised for the recent Suicide Prevention Walk and won the FBLA Outstanding Senior Award.
Following graduation, she will attend Lycoming College and major in psychology.
The Jersey Shore Lions’ Club Citizen of the Month for April is Luke A. Engel son of Rose and Leo Engel, of Williamsport.
He is a member of the tennis and swim teams. He also is a volunteer at his church, the Presbyterian Home and as a lifeguard at the Jersey Shore Area High School.
Engel has lettered in swimming four times and has received the Most Valuable Player award in swimming for four years. He also has competed at the state level in swimming. In addition, he has obtained the Bulldog VIP award every year and is a regular member of the distinguished honor roll.
Following graduation, he plans to attend Gannon University and major in occupational therapy.
The Business and Professional Women’s Club Girl of the Month for April is Lily Rae Wasson, daughter of Jan and Vern Wasson, of Jersey Shore.
Her activities include prom committee, Paw Print, Relay For Life, National Honor Society, Book Club, National Business Honor Society, IT Club, class committee, Future Business Leaders of America, homecoming committee and is a member of the tennis team.
Wasson has served as the secretary of the Class of 2017 for four years, was the vice president of FBLA for two years and president of Book Club for two years. When participating in Relay For Life, she was the team captain for her team.
In FBLA, she placed first in business math and placed in the top five for word processing and entrepreneurship. She has lettered in tennis for three years and won the outstanding underclassman tennis award in ninth grade. She also is a regular member of the distinguished honor roll.
Following graduation, she plans to attend college to major in education or publications.
