River Valley Health and Dental Center to celebrate National Family Literacy Day

In celebration of National Family Literacy Day, the River Valley Health and Dental Center, 471 Hepburn St., plans to dedicate its Children’s Book Nook at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in its waiting room lobby. The establishment of the Children’s Book Nook was made possible by the generosity of the Notre Dame Club of Greater Williamsport.

The dedication will feature two local authors, Rev. Bob Wallace and Carrie Anne Noble, who will be present to give away autographed books and other items. The first 40 children to register will receive complimentary copies to take home. Light refreshments also will be provided.

Lycoming County native Carrie Anne Noble is the bestselling author of fantasy fiction for young adults. Her debut novel, “The Mermaid’s Sister,” won the 2014 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award for Young Adult Fiction and the 2016 Realm Award for Speculative Novel of the Year. Her recently published second novel, “The Gold-Son,” follows the adventures of a teenager forced to become a leprechaun.

Semi-retired United Methodist Pastor, Rev. Bob Wallace, has written three Christmas children’s stories for the entire family about the birth of Jesus. The first book, “Hadassah Finds Peace,” tells the story of the birth of Jesus through the eyes of the donkey that carried Mary to Bethlehem. The second book, “Abel Is Saved,” is the story of the sheep brought by the shepherds to the manger and given as a gift to Jesus. And the third book, “Rigel Finds Joy,” looks at the gift of Jesus through the eyes of one of the camels who carried one of the Magi to see Jesus. The books are illustrated by area artist, Emily Green.
