Over the last few months, the Williamsport Area High School choirs have been preparing three holiday songs from the movie “Home Alone” to perform on Dec. 12 at the Community Arts Center with the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. The WAHS choirs had the opportunity to rehearse during school last Friday with Dr. Gerardo Edelstein, the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra’s music director and conductor. “We are an extremely lucky to be a part of this concert and we are very grateful for the experience to work with him (Maestro Edelstein),” stated Holly Deuel, a senior in the choir at WAHS. Unlike many schools in the area, Williamsport Area High School music department has not one, but two choir directors, Mr. Kent Weaver and Mr. Samuel Robinson, that are responsible for giving their students the experiences and opportunities when being a part of WAHS choirs. “It’s such a privilege to have our amazing conductors, and it’s a huge privilege to work with yet another,” explained junior Nick Stevens. Rehearsals with both the choirs and the orchestra took place on the CAC stage on two additional occasions before the big performance.
On Dec. 2, some of the choir students who are also part of the a cappella ensembles at Williamsport, GQ and Les Chanteuse, had the opportunity to perform at the White House for guests walking through on tours. Kayleigh Early, a junior in Les Chanteuse, went with the group to the White House for the second time this December.” Singing at the White House is more than any other singing gig. It is an honor to feel so personally connected to history, and each year the experience is incredible,” said Early. “The entire White House was decorated. It was so pretty,” sophomore Zoe Wagner recalled. “We sang for almost three hours. The people on tours would stop and listen. It was a really amazing experience,” Wagner said. Les Chanteuses and GQ will also perform at the Williamsport Country Club for the holiday season and at the Williamsport High School Music Department’s Holiday Concert on December 17.
