WAHS Big Brothers, Big Sisters Club donate to community

The Williamsport Area High School Big Brothers Big Sisters club’s second annual holiday door decorating contest culminated recently with a distribution of donated items (and time) to area organizations.

The majority of the items — food, toiletries and gloves, which were donated as an “entry fee” to participate in the contest — were donated to Family Promise. Baby items were donated to the Nurse Family Partnership at UPMC Susquehanna (through the Junior league of Williamsport) and clothing to The Boutique at the YWCA.

The holiday-themed doors were judged by a panel of WAHS students, teachers and principals, and the winning door was created by Karen Hill’s Health Occupations class.

After delivering donations to Family Promise, three members of the Big Brother Big Sisters Club helped with the Kids in the Kitchen event at Firetree Place, where they helped children learn about food and prepare their own meal. That event was held by the Junior League of Williamsport.

Last year’s door decorating contest provided donations to Liberty House at the YWCA, Saving Grace Shelter, STEP and Beckoning Cat Project.
