WASD students pay tribute to school board members

Students from across the district honored Williamsport Area School Board members recently in a ceremony held in observance of January’s School Board Recognition Month.

In WASD tradition, the 17 students, selected based on their good standing in their schools, presented each board member with a brand-new book for them to read before returning it for installation in each of the students’ respective school libraries.

The night’s ceremony came on the heels of a month annually reserved to recognized school board members, as it was rescheduled due to inclement weather. According to the Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA), “In January, we pause to salute who spend dozens of hours each month voluntarily leading our schools and making difficult decisions — they are the school directors.”
