Juliet Jacques wins the 2018 Williamsport Music Club Scholarship
Juliet Jacques, daughter of Dana Jacques, is the winner of the 2018 Williamsport Music Club Scholarship with her viola presentation of Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher. She will perform this piece publically at the Club’s Gala Concert at 7:30 p.m. April 24 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Her newly acquired viola was made in the 19th century.
Jacques is a senior at Williamsport Area High School where she is a member of the Strolling Strings, the STEM Team and is a volunteer mathematics tutor. Jacques, whose favorite class is physics, is a Commended National Merit Scholar.
Jacques, who now performs with the Williamsport Symphony, has played the viola for nine years. She chose the instrument because it combines the tones of violin and cello.Victoria Chiang in Baltimore is her teacher.
Jacques has received other musical awards. She placed second in the National Federation of Music Club’s 2018 Wendell Irish Viola Competition and won the Northeast Region of the same award. As a result, she was presented with monetary awards toward her continued musical studies. In 2017, Jacques won the Bloomsburg Young Classical Artists’ Competition.
