Students of the Month

Markley

Riley Ann Markley, daughter of Kelli and Jeffery Markley, of Jersey Shore, was named the Jersey Shore Lions’ Club Citizen of the Month for April.

Markley’s activities include FCCLA, school musical, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, FBLA and Upward Bound.

She served as the secretary of the National Spanish Honor Society and is the president of the Bounded Club. She has been inducted into the Ira Grugan National Honor Society and has placed several times in FBLA competitions. She also is a regular member of the distinguished honor roll.

Outside of school, she is a member of the ASA softball team and is a part-time clerk at the Dandy Mart, Salladasburg. She also volunteers her time at Heisey Museum, the Salvation Army, the Ross Library and the SPCA. She is working on her EMT certification and she volunteers at the Waterville Volunteer Fire Dept. She also enjoys hunting, kayaking, hiking, fishing, playing softball and hanging out with her family, friends and pets.

Following graduation, she plants to attend the University of Pittsburgh and major in their pre-physician’s assistant program.

Butzler

Emma Jane Butzler, daughter of Kelly Butzler, of Jersey Shore, was named the Business and Professional Women’s Club Girl of the Month for April.

Butzler’s activities include student ambassador, cross county, student school board representative, track, student council, swimming and FBLA. She also was team captain of both her swim team and cross country team. She was a FBLA state qualifier and was top 10 in Broadcast News Journalism at FBLA states. She has completed six Penn College courses.

Outside of school, she lifeguards and works at Phil-It-Up as an ice cream attendant. She also teaches Sunday school at Saint Luke’s Church and is an altar server and an altar server trainer She enjoys painting, hiking, lifting, swimming, running and biking.

Following graduation, she plans to attend college and major in environmental science and urban planning.

Hoffman

Cassidy L. Hoffman, son of Sonia and Scott Hoffman, was named the Warrior Run High School Student of the Month for April.

His school involvement includes National Honor Society, student council, FBLA, Class of 2018 historian, Kelsey’s Dream 5K/chairman, basketball captain, cross country captain) and track and field captain

His community involvement includes Community involvement: Watsontown Alliance Youth Ministry Team, Vacation Bible School (VBS) volunteer, Jr. Church and Warrior Run Fort Freeland Heritage Days.

His awards and achievements include two time 3200 Meter Relay, State Medalist, four time cross country state qualifier, region 23 FBLA Business Ethics Champion, Defender PRIDE, School Counts, American Legion History Award, PHAC All-Star: basketball, cross country and track and PHAC Academic All-Star.

Following graduation, he plans to attend Messiah College to obtain bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Betz

Kailey E. Betz, daughter of Karrie Ravert and Justin Betz, was named the Turbotville Lions Club Student of the Month.

Her school involvement includes National Honor Society, Youth in Philanthropy, Nation­al Art Honor Society, Spanish Club and varsity track and field.

Her community involvement includes Turbotville Zion Lutheran Church Youth Group and Zion Disaster Relief Team.

Her awards and achievements are Distinguished Honor Roll.

Outside of work, she is employed as a volunteer at Camp Mount Luther.

Following graduation, she plans to attend Lycoming College to major in accounting with a minor in entrepreneurship.

Myers

David M. Myers, son of Cindy and Steven Myers, was named the Watsontown Lions Club Student of the Month.

His school involvement includes National Honor Society, marching band, concert band, varsity soccer and varsity baseball.

His community involvement includes Boy Scouts. He is an Eagle Scout candidate.

His awards and achievements include Warrior Run Woman’s Club photography and art and literature contest winner. Four of his photos are being submitted to a state wide competition.

Following graduation, he plans to attend Penn State University and major in communications.

Hanford

Jeremy R. Hanford, son of Joe Hanford and Carrie and Jamie Cutchall, was named Milton Rotary Club Vocational Student of the Month.

His school involvement includes varsity wrestling.

Outside of school, he likes to hunt and fish.

His awards and achievements include honor student, Turbotville Lions Club Student of the Month and wrestling: PIAA District Qualifier and state medalist.

Following graduation, he plans to attend Southeast Lineman Training Center.
