Local nonprofits collaborate in ‘Over the Edge’ fundraising event

The YWCA Northcentral PA, River Valley Regional YMCA and Williamsport Area School District Education Foundation recently announced the community’s first collaborative fundraiser, Over The Edge — Williamsport. This daring, urban adventure encourages participants to think and act boldy for the well-being of the community.

The first 75 volunteers to raise at least $1,000 for either the YWCA, YMCA or WASD Education Foundation will experience Williamsport’s longest possible rappel from the roof of Lycoming County Housing Authority’s William Hepburn High Rise on Oct. 27.

Participants, called an Edger, must raise at least $1,000 for the non-profit of their choice or they can split their fundraising between all three agencies.

“We will walk hand-in-hand with the Edgers through the fundraising process,” said Greg Hayes, Education Foundation executive director. “People will be shocked at how simple and exciting it will be raise vital funds to make the life-changing work of the school district, YMCA and YWCA possible.”

Edgers will receive a personalized tool-kit and are invited to a special VIP reception to celebrate their accomplishment the evening before their rappel.

Funds raised through Over The Edge will support the nonprofit in specific ways. Through the YMCA, it will support special programs for Veterans, chronic disease survivors and senior citizens. The WASD Education Foundation will benefit the cultural enrichment programs and enhance academic experience for students. Through the YWCA, Edgers can help homeless women and mothers opportunities to find safe, permanent homes.
