Zeitgeist String Trio

The Zeitgeist String Trio is a musical group that consists of and is run by three high school students. The group’s musicians are Emilie Tupper on violin, Megan Wike on viola, and Rachel Boll on cello.

The trio began playing together last winter when Megan Wike had an idea to direct a student recital.

“We all have played in the Williamsport Youth Symphony since the beginning of high school. I knew that Emilie and Rachel were great players, so I asked them to be a part of it,” stated Wike. “We performed movements from Dohnanyi’s Serenade for string trio about four months after the student recital in May and we have been playing together ever since.”

The Trio categorizes their performances as recitals, but as of September, most of their performances have been gigs where they are hired to play.

The Trio has performed for many events this year including the Eat Around the World River Valley Health and Dental Benefit, First Friday at the Backhouse Cafe and Victorian Christmas.

“We enjoy having the opportunity to perform in a number of different venues and occasions, and to be able to connect with people in the community,” stated Tupper.

In particular, Boll enjoyed playing at the Backhouse.

“It was a very casual performance, and we got to interact more with the people we were playing for,” remarked Boll.

Recently, the three musicians performed their individual college audition solo repertoire at Robert M. Sides.

An upcoming performance will be scheduled in the spring showcasing the Dohnanyi Serenade for string trio and the Schubert Trout Quintet, featuring a collaboration with pianist Jacob Frasch.

The string trio is currently available for hire for events such as dinner parties, weddings and holiday gatherings.

They are currently on Facebook as Zeitgeist String Trio and Instagram @zeitgeist–trio.

“We all are serious about music and are committed to rehearsing, performing and challenging each other to grow as musicians,” stated Boll.
