Heart association names Fit-Friendly sites
The American Heart Association recently recognized several companies in Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Centre, Luzerne and Union counties, as Platinum or Gold-Level Award recipients in the Fit-Friendly Worksites Recognition program.
Platinum-Level awardees include:

The American Heart Association Fit-Friendly program is free and offers companies tools to create a healthier workplace environment.
Fit-Friendly companies are recognized for carrying out wellness activities such as a company walking program and routes, gym access, allowing staff to wear athletic shoes on designated “sneaker days” or making sure healthy foods and beverages are in company meetings and vending machines.
County woman honored for work with Alzheimer’s group
PITTSBURGH – Gail Roddie-Hamlin, president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Pennsylvania Chapter, honored northeastern Pennsylvania outstanding Alzheimer’s Association volunteers at a recent event held at Posh at Scranton Club.
“We are very excited to take the time to celebrate our volunteers and community supporters. It is inspiring to see so many dedicated people working together for a world without Alzheimer’s disease,” Roddie-Hamlin said. “We know time is valuable, and our association is honored that these individuals choose to share a lot of time with us to help fight this daunting disease.”
The winners honored at the event include:

Nominations for the awards were submitted by volunteers, community supporters and chapter staff.
Hospital announces April Rocker of the Month
Bonna Somers, registered nurse on the Acute Care unit, was awarded Jersey Shore Hospital’s Rocker of the Month award for April.
Somers was nominated for her helpful, patient and knowledgeable leadership during the recent building and implementation of the hospital’s electronic health record system.
“Bonna always goes above and beyond when working with her peers and patients,” a coworker said. “She is always pleasant and provides great hands-on training for her fellow nurses. She is the kind of nurse I want to be when I grow up!”
The Jersey Shore Hospital Rocker award is given out monthly to those who respect both customers and coworkers and provide excellent leadership.
Regional health care organizations partner to form Keystone ACO
DANVILLE – Keystone Accountable Care Organization, comprised of Geisinger Health System, Evangelical Community Hospital and Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers, has been selected as one of 106 new accountable care organizations in Medicare, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently announced.
The announcement is the latest and largest round of accountable care organizations under the Medicare shared-savings program. It ensures that as many as 4 million Medicare beneficiaries across the U.S. now have access to high-quality, coordinated care, said Dr. Thomas Graf, chief medical officer for Population Health at Geisinger Health System and CEO of Keystone ACO.
ACOs allow financially strong, independent health care facilities to work together to serve their communities while at the same time experiencing cost savings that can be re-invested into more care programs that create more benefits for their patients.
The Keystone ACO is comprised of nine health care organizations in Pennsylvania:

Geisinger receives best practice award in genome analysis
DANVILLE – Geisinger Health System’s Genomics Medicine Institute earned grand prize recognition by Bio-IT World in its ninth Best Practices Awards.
Geisinger was recognized in the category of informatics for integrated genome-phenome analysis for its work in an international contest led by Boston Children’s Hospital. With a goal of establishing “best practices” for interpreting genomic data, the project involved 23 teams of professionals from around the world competing to interpret the DNA sequences of three children with rare conditions whose causes were a mystery.
