Susquehanna Health honors nurses with DAISY Awards

Three Susquehanna Health nurses recently were recognized as recipients of the DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses.

Julie Yocum, a nurse with the Susquehanna Health Home Care and Hospice, was selected for recognition after being nominated by a patient’s family member. “Julie is an exceptional and compassionate nurse who provided my father with the special care he needed during each visit. She would go above and beyond what was asked of her to accommodate and care for my father, and she even would call and check in with me on her time off,” the patient said.

Kim Black, a nurse with the Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Muncy Valley Hospital, was selected after being nominated by a co-worker. “Kim is a courteous and positive nurse. She provides her service to patients, coworkers and visitors with a smile on her face, and is a joy to be around. Kim is very knowledgeable, but continues to be willing to learn; often asking questions when she is asked about something outside of her expertise. She will do anything for her residents and patients. On one occasion she came in on her day off to take a wheelchair-bound resident to see the Williamsport Crosscutters play a game,” the co-worker said.

Megan Bratt, a nurse at Williamsport Regional Medical Center, was selected after being nominated by a patient. “Honor is due where honor is due, and Megan Bratt is a exemplary nurse who deserves to be recognized for the exceptional care she provided to me during my stay at the hospital. She not only provided the best care and compassion at my bedside, but when she learned that I was celebrating a birthday while in the hospital she gave me a violin concert as a present. During my care we realized that we both shared a love for the violin, and in honor of my special day Megan brought hers in and played for me, the,” the patient said.

A nurse from each Lycoming County Susquehanna Health campus is selected every quarter. Anyone may nominate a nurse for a DAISY award – a coworker, patient, patient’s family or physician. Nomination forms are available at nursing stations and at The DAISY Awards are presented in more than 900 hospitals.
