Evangelical Community Hospital granted funds for 2 major programs
LEWISBURG?- Evangelical Community Hospital has been awarded a grant of $38,500 from the Ralph and Josephine Smith Fund at the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP).
The funds are designated for recent renovations to The Family Place, Evangelical’s obstetrics unit, and for support of the financial assistance program.
Michael O’Keefe, president and CEO of Evangelical Community Hospital, accepted the awarded funds at the Summer Grant Reception held by FCFP on July 10.
O’Keefe said, “On behalf of the hospital, I want to thank the Smith Fund and First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania for their generosity. These grant dollars are an integral part of the hospital’s goal to provide exceptional care for new mothers and for individuals throughout our communities who need medical care but struggle financially to pay for those services.”
Grants from the Ralph and Josephine Smith Fund are available yearly to four designated organizations that serve Northumberland County: the Warrior Run Library, Evangelical Community Hospital, SUN Home Health Services, and the Turbotville Community Hall Corp.
In addition, the fund awards scholarships to graduating seniors from the Warrior Run School District.
Evangelical’s The Family Place began renovations in early 2013 and recently reached completion.
The grant funds will offset the costs associated with upgrading patient rooms, having two labor and delivery rooms and two post-partum rooms designed for patients with special needs through compliance with the American Disabilities Act, creating a new family waiting room area, and installing a new nurse call system.
The financial assistance program at Evangelical makes it possible for the hospital to provide needed health services and support individuals in the community who have difficulty paying for those services.
In fiscal year 2014, the program expended $684,292 supporting 151 patients’ medical needs by providing necessary inpatient and outpatient health services at no charge or at a reduced charge.
