Buchanan named to American Board of Genetic Counseling

DANVILLE —  Adam Buchanan has been named to the board of directors of the American Board of Genetic Counseling, according to a news release from Geisinger.

The board sets standards for certifying genetic counselors and provides leadership in education and promotion surrounding the value of certified genetic counselors. Buchanan will begin a four-year term with the board in January 2017.

He is both a licensed and certified genetic counselor. He was previously a research scientist at the Duke Cancer Institute in Durham, North Carolina.

Orthopaedist joins Geisinger Medical Center

DANVILLE —  Dr. C. Liam Dwyer has joined Geisinger Medical Center as a doctor of orthopaedics, specializing in hand, wrist, finger and elbow conditions and injuries, according to a news release.

New internal

medicine physician joins Evangelical

LEWISBURG —  Internal medicine physician Dr. Manzoor A. Shah has joined the Internal Medicine of Evangelical-Lewisburg practice, Suite 206 of the Professional Office Building on the Evangelical Campus.

Prior to joining the Evangelical team, Shah worked with the Hospital Medicine Group at Baton Rouge General Hospital, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and the Louisiana State University Lallie Kemp Medical Center in Independence, Louisiana.

Named fellows of the Infectious Disease Society

DANVILLE —  A pair of Geisinger Health System physicians — Lisa Esolen, director, infection prevention and control; and Stanley Martin, director, infectious diseases —  have been named fellows this year by the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the nation’s leading infectious diseases professional society.

They are the first Geisinger physicians to earn the distinction, according to a Geisinger news release.

Fellowship in the society honors those who have achieved professional excellence and provided significant service to the profession.

The society named 111 physicians and scientists fellows this year.

Rowan director

of imaging services at Evangelical

LEWISBURG — Wendy Rowan, of Selinsgrove, has been named director of imaging services at Evangelical Community Hospital, according to a news release.

With more than 15 years of experience in medical imaging, Rowan has been part of the Evangelical family of employees since November 2015 when she was hired as the clinical operations manager for imaging services, the release stated.

Spotts expands his role at Evangelical

Dr. Douglas A Spotts, a family medicine physician with Evangelical Medical Services Organization is expanding his role as chief health information officer with Evangelical Community Hospital.

In his new position, Spotts leads Evangelical’s electronic medical record initiative to enhance quality, patient safety and population health.

Spotts has been serving in this role part-time since February 2011, in addition to practicing family medicine for people of all ages at family medicine of Evangelical-Lewisburg.

Pediatric hospitalist joins Evangelical,  Janet Weis

LEWISBURG —  Dr. Jeffrey Taylor has joined Evangelical Community Hospital and Geisinger’s Janet Weis Children’s Hospital as a pediatric hospitalist.

He is stationed at Evangelical fulltime and will assist local pediatricians and primary care physicians in the treatment of pediatric inpatients and newborns in the nursery.

Prior to joining the two hospitals, Taylor most recently served as a primary care pediatrician at Anaconda Pediatrics in Anaconda, Montana.
