Tioga County to host cancer survivor brunch

A celebration brunch will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8, in the Survivor Tent on The Green in Wellsboro for cancer survivors.

“The survivors brunch is a celebration of strength and courage. A cancer diagnosis turns our lives upside down — affecting not only the patient but family, friends and caregivers,” said Janie Hilfiger, chief administrative officer for Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. “The journey to recovery can be a long, arduous road. We feel it’s important to remember and recognize not only those we’ve lost, but also those who are still fighting and those who have won their battle with this terrible disease.

Dr. Charles Agbemabiese, a physician serving UPMC Susquehanna Cancer Centers at Soldiers and Sailors and Divine Providence Hospital, will speak at noon.

Brunch will be provided by UPMC Susquehanna’s Cancer Center in Wellsboro as part of the Tioga County Relay for Life event.

Those planning to attend must RSVP by July 3. To RSVP or for more information, call 570-723-2855.

“UPMC Susquehanna is dedicated to helping more patients than ever declare, ‘I’m here, and I’m cancer-free.’ We are so grateful for every single person filling a seat at the survivorship table,” Hilfiger said.
