Forest center announces public programs

WATERVILLE – The Tiadaghton Forest Resource Management Center will sponsor the following four programs next month. All are open to the public. The center is just north of Waterville on Route 44.

Sept. 7 – Beginning Binoculars, an introduction to binoculars and bird watching, 1 p.m. Ten sets of binoculars and bird books will be available and the public may bring their own.

Sept. 7 – What’s Bugging You, an introduction to butterflies, moths and other insects, 2:30 pm. Butterfly nets, bug boxes and field guides will be available.

  • Sept. 14 – Intro to Tree Identification Hike, 11 a.m. Participants will take a half-mile moderate hike on the center’s Demo Forest Trail. Pennsylvania Common Trees booklets will be provided and 10 sets of binoculars will be available to look at leaves in the canopy.

Sept. 21 – Logging History Hike, 10 a.m. Take a 5-mile strenuous hike on the Log Slide Trail. The hike will start in the center with a short talk about the history of logging in the Pine Creek Valley. The hike begins and ends at the center.
