Local representative to speak at snowmobiling club’s meeting

HUGHESVILLE – The Central Pennsylvania Sleds and Treads will hold a public meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Hughesville Fire Hall.

Guest speaker state Rep. Garth Everett, R-Muncy, will discuss the Pennsylvania Recreational Use of Land and Water Act. He will focus on House Bill 544, which proposes to include snowmobiling, all-terrain vehicle use and motorcycling to the list of activities covered under state law.

“Our region is home to a lot of outdoor sporting activities, and this pending legislation will have an impact on that,” Everett said. “I am delighted to join CPAST for this meeting, as this group does a lot for outdoor enthusiasts in the area.”

Everett said the legislation would amend the act by expanding protections for landowners and awarding legal fees to property owners found not liable for injuries to recreational users.

Central Pennsylvania Sleds and Treads Inc. is the former Highland Lake Snowmobile and Outdoor Recreation Club. It was established by a group of outdoor enthusiasts in 2005 and includes more than 100 members from Lycoming, Sullivan and surrounding counties.
