MANSFIELD — A hearty bunch of young ladies and men donated their time earlier this month to stock trout for the fifth annual kids trout derby sponsored by the Lambs Creek Sportsman’s Club.

Hundreds of trout from Arnot Sportsman’s Club and Morris Rod and Gun Club were scooped, hauled and stocked with a kiss.

The derby will be held on May 6 at the Mansfield Water Authority Reservoir. It is open to youth 14 years and younger and is free to all contestants; youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration will be held at Lambs Creek Sportsman’s Club from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

Fishing begins at 9 and lines must be out of the water at 11:30.

Weigh-in will be held at 12:30 p.m. with prizes awarded for the first, second and third-place stringers (five-fish limit); plus “surprise” awards throughout morning.

A hot dog lunch will be served at noon at the club onsite; kids eat free.

The derby is a youth-only event open to the general public.
