State forest opens roads for deer hunting season

EMPORIUM — The following roads in Elk State Forest will be open for the regular rifle deer season from Nov. 27 through Dec. 9. Side roads are not open to motorized vehicles.

• Buffalo Switch Road No. 14

• Deer Pen Road No. 56

• Short Road

• South Fork Road No. 69

• GBS No. 112

• Sleepy Hollow Road No. 224

• Tanglefoot Road No. 119

• Whiting Hollow Road No. 215

• Shaffer Belle CC Road

• Canoe Run Road No. 40

The following gated roads on the Elk State Forest will be open from Oct. 14-21 and Nov. 27 through Dec. 9. Side roads are not open to motorized vehicles.

• Logue Run No. 134

• McNuff No. 141

• Mayflower Road

• Norcross Road No. 131

• South Whitehead Road No. 129

• McNuff Trail Spur

The following gated roads on the Elk State Forest will be open from Saturday through Dec. 9. Side roads are not open to motorized vehicles.

• Compressor Road

• Teutonia Road No. 434

• Frog Camp Hollow Road

• West Branch Road No. 473

The roads above are seasonal and may not support heavy traffic under unusually wet, muddy conditions.

If unfavorable weather conditions exist and road conditions deteriorate, the roads may be closed for visitor safety.

Forest officials urge drivers to use caution when using the roads because they are narrow in places and may be rough and rocky.
