Upper Pine Creek Trout Tournament scheduled for coming weekend

WELLSBORO — Up to $14,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded during the 28th annual Upper Pine Creek Trout Tournament, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon Snowmobile Club.

The tournament will take place Saturday and next Sunday along a 13-mile stretch of Pine Creek between the Mill Street Bridge in Galeton Borough and the Ansonia Bridge in Shippen Township.

Each of the 250 fish float stocked in that section will be tagged. The top cash prize is $1,000. There will also be two $500 cash prizes. The minimum prize for a tagged fish is $50 and may be cash, merchandise or a combination of both.

To register, call 717-881-9358 or visit www.pagrandcanyonsnowmobileclub.com and download a registration form. Registration forms can also be found at area businesses.

All fish must be legally caught. On Saturday, tournament entrants cannot begin fishing until 6 a.m. and must stop by 6 p.m. Hours next Sunday are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Those fishing before or after the stated times will be disqualified. No fish will be accepted at the check-in station (snowmobile clubhouse on Route 6) 30 minutes after the cut-off time.

Those competing in the tournament must have a valid Pennsylvania fishing license and must observe and obey landowners’ rights. Trespassing on private property is not allowed, nor is littering.

Money raised through the tournament is used to help cover the club’s operating costs and also to provide a scholarship for a selected graduating senior from the Galeton, Wellsboro, Mansfield and Cowanesque Valley high schools. Money is also donated to local charities, such as the food banks at Wellsboro, Galeton and Osceola and to help families with special needs.
