Man charged with robbing township store

A Loyalsock Township man has been jailed on charges of allegedly robbing a female clerk at the Quick Mart, 1810 Northway Road, at gunpoint on Dec. 15, state police said.

Maurice C. Williams, 22, of 1620 Randall Circle, is accused of being the masked robber who walked into the business, pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded money, police said.

The holdup occurred about 7:45 p.m., police said.

The clerk opened the cash register and began putting bills in a sack the robber was holding, police said. The man then bolted from the scene with about $600, police said.

Williams was arraigned last week before District Judge Gary A. Whiteman on charges of robbery, simple assault, theft and receiving stolen property. He remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
