Bail set at 200K in heroin arrest

An alleged heroin dealer will need $200,000 to get out of the County Prison.

Harry “Toot” James Thomas Jr., 26, of 224 W. Second Ave., South Williamsport, is behind bars, following a controlled purchase that took place at the man’s South Williamsport home, according to police.

Thomas faces four felony counts – one each for delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of communications devises and two for possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

On Friday, authorities were contacted by an unnamed informant, who said he had been purchasing heroin from Thomas about five times a week for the past year, according to court records.

After checking the informant’s facts, authorities set up a controlled purchase to gather more information.

According to court records, the informant was given $40 and sent to Thomas’ address. The informant came back with four bags of heroin, which were turned over to police, records state.

Following the alleged controlled purchase, members of the Lycoming County Drug Task Force, Federal Bureau of Investigations, state police and city police teamed together to serve a search warrant at Thomas’s address.

During the search, authorities uncovered 120 bags of heroin, a digital scale, four cellphones and about $800 in cash.

Thomas was taken into custody Friday and arraigned before District Magistrate Jon E. Kemp, who set the $200,000 bail.
