Man steals grandmother’s gun to buy heroin, police allege

A local man faces charges after allegedly stealing his grandmother’s handgun to purchase drugs.

Charles Irdell Flad, 21, 1520 Dauber Road, Cogan Station, has been charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property.

On Sept. 30, state police received a report from Beverly June Hall, also of 1520 Dauber Road. Hall told authorities that her .32 caliber handgun was missing.

During their investigation, authorities spoke with Hall’s grandson, Flad.

Flad told police that two of his friends, Matthew Bausinger and Michael Moyer, had visited him the day before. According to Flad, his friends wanted to go to Williamsport and purchase heroin. Later, Flad stated he “was made aware” that his friends had used the stolen gun to purchase cocaine, according to court records.

On Oct. 3, police spoke with Bausinger, who admitted he was with Moyer and Flad on Sept. 29.

Bausinger told police that he saw two guns in Flad’s possession. He also stated that Flad was the only one of the three who knew where the guns were located.

Flad was arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on Saturday and jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.
