Police: Sex offender found with children in trash-filled apartment

JERSEY SHORE – Responding to a routine medical call on South Main Street early last month, police officers found two children inside a trash-strewn apartment with a convicted sex offender.

Paramedics and Tiadaghton Valley Regional Police officers were dispatched to an apartment at 433 S. Main St. for a report of an occupant having chest pains about 11:50 p.m., Jan. 6.

While paramedics treated the person who was ill, officers questioned a second occupant in the apartment, Steven Paul Scott, who initially gave a false identification, police said.

The apartment was “full of trash, dog feces and in total disarray,” police said. Two 6-year-old children were found in the apartment, “which was not fit for a child,” according to an affidavit.

When the 21-year-old Scott was asked his name, he hesitated and then gave a false identity. The officer suspected Scott was not being truthful and told him he was going to fingerprint him to get his real identity. At that point, Scott gave his real name.

“I’m on parole and just got out of prison,” Scott told the officer, adding that as a registered sex offender, he knew he was not allowed to be around children, police said.

Scott, now living at 1719 E. Third St., Loyalsock Township, is back behind bars. He was committed the next day to the Lycoming County Prison on a parole violation.

Police have charged him with false identity to law enforcement, a misdemeanor. He has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley.
