20-year-old faces heroin charges

Drug charges have been filed against a 20-year-old Fairfield Township man who admitted to taking heroin hours before he passed out in his pickup truck, city police said.

Tyler Jordan Furhman, of 225 Cemetery Road, “was slow in his movements and his speech was slurred and slow” when officers and paramedics found him in the truck in the 1700 block of West Fourth Street about 11 p.m. two days after Christmas.

Police had been called to investigate a report of an unconscious man in a vehicle.

When a paramedic asked him if she would be allowed to search his jacket pockets in an attempt “figure out what was causing his condition,” he did not object, police said. The paramedic found a syringe in the pocket.

“What was this used for,” the paramedic asked him.

Furhman replied “that he had used it for heroin four hours ago,” Patrolman Robert J. Brown wrote in an affidavit.

“I swear this is the first time I’ve ever done this,” Furhman told the officer.

Furhman then pulled a bag of a marijuana out of his jacket pocket and handed it to the officer.

“I will never do heroin again,” he told the officer. Furhman declined further medical treatment at the scene.

Charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Furhman was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge James Carn and released on $1,500 bail.
