Causes of 3 recent fires will go undetermined

The causes of two recent Montoursville area fires will go undetermined, according to fire officials.

A grill on an enclosed back porch at 511 Broad St. may have been a factor in a two-alarm blaze on Saturday night, leaving two families homeless, borough Fire Chief Steve Wilson said. The double home at 509-511 Broad St. was destroyed.

Wilson said he was very grateful for the assistance the borough received from all the surrounding fire companies that responded and helped put out the fire. No damage estimate was determined.

The cause of the fire that destroyed a home on Halltown Road in Fairfield Township on Feb. 19 also will remained undetermined, Wilson said. No damage estimate was determined in that blaze.

Concerning another fire, city Fire Chief C. Dean Heinbach said investigators were unable to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a small storage shed at the rear of 928 Memorial Ave. on Feb. 19.

Damage in this fire was set at $10,000, he added.
