City man acquitted of sex abuse charges

A Newberry man was acquitted Tuesday of all charges relating to the alleged September 2011 sexual abuse of a 12-year-old girl.

A Lycoming County jury found Aaron Meixel, 41, of 2331 Newberry St., not guilty on counts of indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor after about an hour and a half of deliberation on Tuesday morning.

Meixel was accused of watching the girl take a shower, touching her and performing sex acts on her on Sept. 12, 2011.

During questioning, defense attorney Nicole Ippolito asked the girl about a number of discrepancies between statements she made during the preliminary hearing and her statements on the stand during trial.

“I barely remember anything,” the girl said. “I try to block it from my memory.”

This was Meixel’s second trial in three months. He was found guilty on one count of disseminating obscene materials to a minor and acquitted of seven other charges by a jury on Dec. 17.
