Woman faces felony charges for marijuana possession
A local woman faces charges after state police allegedly uncovered a small amount of marijuana in the glove box of her vehicle.
Kristi Leah Smailek, 35, of 534 Sawmill Road, Boyertown, has been charged with one felony count of possession of contraband and misdemeanor charges for possession of a small amount of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, the contraband was discovered by state police as part of a vehicle search at the State Correctional Institute at Muncy. Officers from the prison’s K9 unit searched Smailek’s car in the parking lot of the prison, after obtaining Smailek’s consent.
Authorities allegedly uncovered a small black box in the glove box of the vehicle. According to the affidavit, the box contained about 4.9 grams of marijuana.
Smailek was arraigned before District Judge Jerry Lepley on April 14. She is incarcerated in lieu of $1,500 bail.
