Fugitive taken into custody on Fourth Street

After being on the lam for several weeks, fugitive Stevannah R. Helminiak was taken into custody last week in a Williamsport apartment building by members of the the U.S. Marshals Office and the county’s Fugitive Task Force.

Helminiak, 23, formerly of the 400 block of Sawmill Road, Cogan Station, was nabbed on July 3 in the 800 block of West Fourth Street on a warrant filed by Old Lycoming Township Sgt. Detective Christopher Kriner.

Helminiak faces charges of forgery, identity theft, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and conspiracy for allegedly forging a dozen checks she allegedly stole from her former boyfriend, Ryan Edvenson, in February, Kriner said.

Helminiak is alleged to have conspired with Frank Casale Jr. in stealing and forging the checks from Edvenson while Edvenson was out of town, Kriner said. Casale Jr., 46, of 1525 Chestnut St., is free on bail after waiving his preliminary hearing on similar charges. He allegedly cashed the checks for $1,500

Helminiak has been arraigned before District Judge James H. Sortman and committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail. She also is incarcerated on a bench warrant.
