Man accused of lying to get prescription meds for panic
A 28-year-old man already on probation for a drug conviction is back behind bars after he allegedly attempted to get a prescription for a panic disorder medication by fraud or deception, city police said.
John Steven Weber, of 2455 Reed St., tried to obtain a prescription for 50 pills of alprazolam from Wegman’s Pharmacy, 201 William St., on the afternoon of June 3 after calling the pharmacy three times, allegedly claiming each time to be a representative from a doctor’s office, police said.
The pharmacy notified police because it was suspected that the calls were not legitimate. Weber was nabbed when he attempted to pick up the prescription, police said. He automatically was committed to the Lycoming County Prison on a probation violation.
He was arraigned two days later before District Judge Allen P. Page III on a charge of attempted possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation and recommitted in lieu of $25,000 bail.
