Man arrested for allegedly beating woman

JERSEY SHORE – A Montoursville man was incarcerated this weekend after allegedly beating a woman who was giving him a ride to buy groceries, according to state police.

James L. Martin, 48, of 831 Scaif Road, Lot 32, Montoursville, has been charged with simple assault and harassment.

An injured woman stumbled into an unnamed park office in Plunkett’s Creek Township and called police. When police met with her some time later, they noted that she had scratches and marks all over her face, and her left eye was bruised and had begun to swell.

The alleged victim explained that she had driven to James Leroy Martin’s home to give him a ride to get groceries. When she got there, she noticed Martin smelled of alcohol. She told police that Martin started punching her in the face and kicking her all over her body, according to reports.

He then allegedly wrestled her to the ground, where he began punching her repeatedly in her face. She bit him and managed to escape, according to police records.

Martin had a video arraignment by Judge Jerry C. Lepley on July 6 at 10:45 p.m. and is incarcerated in lieu of $5,000 bail.
