Sex offender jailed for reporting false address

A local man who also is a registered sex offender, was jailed Friday after authorities say he provided a false address to the Megan’s Law Registry.

Boyd Edward Beatty, 54, of 1420 Richards Ave., faces seven felony charges for failure to comply with registration requirements for sex offenders.

Beatty, who is subject to lifetime sex offender registration, allegedly appeared at the Montoursville state police barracks on April 23, 2012; July 9, 2012; Sept. 9, 2012; Jan. 22, 2013; April 26, 2013; and May 14, 2013, to verify his address, as required by Megan’s Law.

On those dates, Beatty allegedly told police he was living at 20 N. Broad St. in Hughesville.

Authorities received information from another unnamed agency, which made them suspicious about Beatty’s address, according to court documents. Police visited the Broad Street home on July 11 and spoke with resident Shirley Hoffman.

Hoffman, who lives with her mother, told police that Beatty never has lived in her home. She added that he does not receive mail at her address and does not keep his personal belongings there, records state.

Hoffman mentioned that Beatty occasionally visited her home, but said that he lived with his son, Boyd Beatty Jr., in Williamsport. She said that Beatty had asked her and her mother, who lives with her, to tell police that Beatty resided with them, if they were ever asked, according to the affidavit.

Beatty was arraigned before District Judge Gary Whiteman on July 12. He currently is incarcerated in lieu of $100,000.
