Area firefighters battled a forest fire Saturday
BLACK FOREST – State forestry crews and dozens of volunteer firefighters were battling a stubborn forest fire Saturday discovered on a mountain here shortly after 2 p.m.
Because of very rugged terrain, firefighters could only reach the blaze on foot or with all-terrain vehicles.
The blaze reportedly was in the area of Route 44 and Trout Run Mountain Road in the lower end of Brown Township.
Among the firefighters dispatched to help extinguish the fire were volunteers from Black Forest, Pine Creek Independent, Brown Township, Waterville, Haneyville, Jersey Shore, Woodward Township (Lycoming County), Woolrich, Avis and Lock Haven.
It was estimated that anywhere from 10 to 15 acres of forestry land was burning.
A bulldozer was requested to help crews contain the flames. There were no known reports of injuries and no reports of any structures being threatened by the fire.
